Stream Monitoring
The Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring (ALLARM) envisions people who are empowered through science education to participate in decision making about water resources in their local community.
CCWA partnered with ALLARM in 2002 – 2006 with monitoring based on a design study. In 2017 Wilbur Wolf Jr., past CCWA President renewed our partnership with ALLARM to start the quarterly Conodoguinet Creek Watershed Snapshot.
In 2019 CCWA started monthly stream monitoring with ALLARM’s Cumberland County Stream Team. Monitoring includes the main stem of the Conodoguinet and tributaries that include several Northern shale locations. Parameters tested include Conductivity, Nitrate, and, pH

Cumberland County Stream Team
ALLARM has developed a standardized protocol for chemical and biological stream monitoring (Stream Team), which will generate data of known quality on key Susquehanna health indicators. Participants monitor water temperature, conductivity, nitrate-nitrogen, and pH, and conduct biological (macroinvertebrate) and visual assessments of their streams. ALLARM will collaborate with the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association (MSRA), the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association (LSRA), and diverse local partners to pilot Stream Team in four priority Pennsylvania counties in the Middle and Lower Susquehanna watershed
